Europe in LA 2

Yeah, so, I feel like we’re eating our way through LA.  Today we took Linda downtown on the Metro (DING, London AND Paris!) and went to the Nickel Diner.  The owner recognized me and called me a “regular,” that was cool.  Linda has heard us talking about it for weeks and we knew she’d want to go.  Then we walked a few blocks and went to the Bradbury Building.  That thing is amazing.  So gorgeous!  We took a little tour of the Grand Central Market and a few of the shops on the way back to the metro.

Then we headed down to Anaheim.  The traffic was horrible, but we finally made it and checked into The Menage Hotel.  It’s lovely.  The room is fantastic and we just watch Disneyland fireworks from the outside hallway.  For me, it doesn’t get better than Disneyland Fireworks.  We had planned to watch from the pool or hot tub, but it’s about 58 degrees and windy out and we’re far enough from the pool that we would have froze!  brrrr…  We had dinner at the restaurant here and I got a burger…but not just any burger…  THIS burger…

Guys, it’s the size of my head!

Now we’re just relaxing and digesting.  Until tomorrow!

Europe in LA – Part 1

My friend Linny is turning 50 on Saturday.  We were going to go to London and Paris for this milestone birthday, but she fell down some stairs and broke her leg.  Luckily, we hadn’t purchased the tickets yet.  Hopefully, we will go in the next 6 months or so.  For her birthday Elljaypea and I decided to bring Europe to her for the weekend, and it’s all a surprise.  I can’t tell you what’s coming, but I can tell you what’s past.

Today we kicked off the weekend by having dinner at a great French restaurant in Echo Park called Taix (turns out that’s the founder’s last name…).  It’s been in business 80-some years and in it’s current location for 50, so it’s something of a landmark.  Reviews were great and turns out, so was the food.

I started with escargot, then I had shrimp and ratatouille and finished with and apple carmel tart (though the name sounds much better in French).

One thing I love to do is try things I’ve never tried before.  I hope Linny enjoys the things we have planned for her, I think a new cuisine was a little out of her comfort zone!

For now adieu.

The Cops are out to Get Me

What are your thoughts about Lindsay Lohan?

Personally, I think she’s a white hot mess.  How can someone avoid being thrown in the pokey so often?!  Now she’s saying that the cops are out to get her. Why, because she lied, was caught lying and has a slew of witnesses that will say she’s lying.  How’s that Lohan?  The cops are out to get you?

She was driving her Porche on PCH Hwy, rammed into the back of a car and said she wasn’t driving.  Her assistant was in the car with her who immediately said, that the hospital, “I was driving shotgun.”

She seriously thinks she’s above the law.  This time she broke the rules of her probation, so there’s a good possibility she’s going to have to do time.  The judges are tired of her, the lawyers are tired of her, the public is tired of her, even her family is tired of her; recently trying to do an intervention.

I think a little time in the pokey would do her well.

What we fell in love with:

What we’ve got now:

Dreams are a Funny Thing

I missed last night!  I started playing Skyrim, and then it was 12:30 and my day was over and I’d missed the deadline.  I’m finding that I don’t have a lot to say, which makes blogging daily difficult.  NaNoWriMo was relatively easy, couldn’t think of a direction for the storyline…DREAM SEQUENCE.  Easy as that.  A novel in 30 days isn’t expected to be cohesive, is it?  A blog, however, each post has to make a certain amount of sense, right?  Well, this is to make up for my miss yesterday…

 [dream sequence sound]

She couldn’t remember how she ended up at the carnival, but even before she was out of the darkness  … where was sheanyway … the familiar smells and sounds came wafting to her. The cacophony of calliope was easily recognized.  If she listened hard enough she could pick out the different tunes that were getting jumbled together.  She could smell the rich scent of barbequing meat and burning husks of fresh corn, funnel cakethat made her mouth water, it seemed as though the smells were magnified!

The space she was in was a bit cramped and she was lying on her side.  She rolled over into a strange feeling position, she was on her feet, but her knees felt strange.  She stood up but couldn’t quite bring herself to a full standing position; not because there wasn’t room, as far as she could tell there was plenty of height, but her body wouldn’t allow it.  She saw a crack of light to her left and started to walk towards it.  She fell flat.  “what the,” she wondered to herself.  She struggled back up to her feet and steadied herself.  She was very close to the opening, but it was so small, she wondered how she would fit her large frame through the small hole.

She shuffled her feet toward the opening; shuffling was working much better than walking had.  It was only about 6 shuffles before she reached the opening.  It was so small, and she was a young girl.  She sized up the space and decided that if she tilted her shoulders she still probably wouldn’t be able to get out.  She tried it anyway.  It felt as though all of her bones folded in and suddenly she squirted through the hole.  She was out!  She sun was so bright, it blinded her eyes that were so used to the dark.  She looked down, away from the light.  Her eyes started to adjust as she was looking toward the ground and what she saw startled her.  “Is this a dream, or am I ….” she trailed off….

Disney – Star Wars

$4.05 Billion.  I can almost fathom $1 million, but when you get into the billions, I lose all concept.  My bank account  account has never seen much more than a couple thousand.

Most of you have heard that Disney has acquired Lucasfilm for $4.05 BILLION dollars, half of that is in cash.  TWO BILLION DOLLARS IN CASH.  Mind.boggled.

There’s a lot of debate over this purchase and probably equal amounts of people on each side of the argument.  Personally, I think this is a great acquisition for Disney.  They’ve proven that they can stay true to brand and they’re already involved in the Star Wars francise.  I like it.

What I don’t like?  A Star Wars VII, I thought we were done.  Aside from the 3 originals, I have hated the others.  And I worry about Disney, they sure haven’t made a successful live action film in years.  YEARS people!  I know that the Disney name won’t be on any film that isn’t a true “family film,” and Disney no longer markets under Touchstone so how will they actually make a Star Wars film?  That’s my biggest question, HOW.  My friend says that they’ll keep Lucasfilm in tact and they’ll just make their own movies.  I guess that makes the most sense, but I didn’t think Lucasfilm had enough left in them to do movies.

At any rate, I was thinking about what would be in the episode VII.  E! entertainment suggested some casting choices.  What about you?  I’m assuming everyone would be older, and I’m also assuming the originals wouldn’t be coming back.

Luke Skywalker – Brave pretty boy.  Orlando Bloom? Maybe he’s too young?  Russell Crow?

Princess Leia – Pretty feisty princess.  Nichole Kidman, Charlize Theron?

Hans Solo – Rugged, smart alec.  Eric Bana? Christian Bale?

Lando Calrissian – How about Will Smith as Lando, he’d rock it!

I don’t know.  Who would be your suggestions?  Hard to know how far out it might be and how old the actors would need to be.

Home

There’s nothing quite like coming home.  The familiar smells, your pets happy to see you, hairs you recognize.  Yeah, that’s the life.

Oh before I forget, remember to set your clocks back tonight!  You don’t want to be uber early to everything tomorrow…AND you get an extra hour (which I don’t really get, but everyone says it, so there you go).

I promise not all my blog posts will be about my day, but quite honestly, today that’s really what I can muster up for you (it’s either 11:32p or 10:32p, depending on how you look at it).

Lana was able to join us today for all the festivities, which was nice.  In fact, she talked to Guest Services about what happened and they were kind enough to give all three of them passes to come back another day in the next two years.  That right there is some great customer service.  Disneyland could have very easily said that they were sorry about what happened but they have no control over guest’s health, I fear that’s the attitude many retailers take these days.  That’s something Disney does well, Guest Service!  Bravo, Disney!  In reality, they lose nothing by giving my friends passes to compensate for the lost time, and actually it will likely make them money, it’s a win win.

Here’s a little picture for you.  This is California Screaming, dig elljaypea’s hair…best.hair.ever!
